Instrument/Electrical Technician

At Givaudan, perfume design in consumer products is a beautiful combination of art and engineering. The broad range of items included in this category requires perfumers to combine creative flair with the technical formulations needed for the finished product. In some cases this can involve working within tight parameters, considering pH levels in a shampoo, or the complex longevity needed for plug-in air fresheners. This is the impressive skill of the perfumer.

The Instrument Technician provides is responsible for scheduling and performing instrument calibration, repair, troubleshooting and installation projects for the Mount Olive production facility.  This person will also maintain and troubleshoot instrumentation, electrical and automation systems within the facility.  This person will work with  the Engineering and Automation departments in developing project specifications and execution of improvement projects. Manages plant Instrument Maintenance Shop inventory, tools and equipment. Reports to Plant Engineer/Maintenance Manager and works closely with Automation department to implement production and capital improvement projects.


  • By using technical documentation such as P&ID diagrams, instrument & electrical specifications, panel wiring schematics, PLC programs, and loop diagrams: and by using electronic diagnostic equipment and PLC programming devices, troubleshoots Programmable Logic Controllers, electro-mechanical programmable robotic devices, dedicated control devices such as analog loop controllers, temperature controllers, proportioning systems, and mass flow measurement systems. Provides minor programming changes to programmable devices and also assists the Sr. Automation Engineer in configuring, troubleshooting, adjusting, programming, and training others on the process Distributed Programmable Logic Controller System, the Building Automation System, and other programmable devices.
  • Maintains, operates, specifies, and procures equipment, tools and parts to operate the plant Instrument Maintenance Shop. Performs duties necessary to install, adjust, test, repair, calibrate, and maintain instruments, controls, and three phase electrical devices up to 480 VAC.  Assists in the development of I&E preventative maintenance programs and leads their ongoing implementation and recordkeeping.  
  • Using above technical documentation, installs, troubleshoots, repairs, replaces, adjusts, and/or calibrates various process field and laboratory instruments; such as pressure regulators, control valves, pneumatic actuators, weighing scales, transmitters, positioners, proximity switches, process monitors and controllers.
  • Using same above documentation; troubleshoots, installs, adjusts, and  maintains various electrical equipment including power and UPS supplies, transformers, switches, wiring on operating devices, motors, heaters, blowers, air handling units, batteries and chargers; Vertical storage machines, electromechanical dosing robots, hot water heater controls, and other control devices, such as pressure, temperature, flow indicating or recording devices, for DC and single and three phase power systems up to 480 VAC.
  • Assists Shift Process Technicians, Maintenance & Operating personnel, and Engineering in identifying operational problems, testing and implementing production improvements, and providing other assistance in achieving production and distribution requirements and capital improvements.
  • Completes proper documentation for calibration programs including PC based records and registrations, obtaining/returning storeroom parts, completing maintenance work orders, and maintaining document corrections for technical documents in item #1 above.


Education and Experience:

  • Has technical training and applied experience in instrumentation testing/calibration, electrical equipment testing  (480v), switch gear and MCC maintenance, UPS systems, motors, pumps and any other relevant manufacturing maintenance experience.
  • Understands and is proficient with PLC Programming hardware for GE PLC’s.
  • Has working knowledge of National Electrical Code as applied in Class 1 and 11, Division 1 & 2 for combustible and flammable materials.
  • Can use electronic and electrical troubleshooting tools including scope, voltage and current meters, instrument calibration tools.
  • Can safely use hand tools for installation, disassembly, and testing of electronic, pneumatic, and electrical devices in various conditions including elevated work platform, outside work, and work in condition and unconditioned areas.
  • Effective and logical troubleshooting and problem solving skills required.
