Applications Scientist - Dairy

We are at the heart of innovation in the dairy category covering the full spectrum of frozen and fluid products: from dairy drinks, yogurt and ice cream to instant and chilled desserts, cream cheese, and spreads. Trend developments are causing shifts in the shape of dairy products in the area of health and wellness, which has been a keen interest for consumers. Consumers want 'value products', where they can find taste and flavor, and reduced sugar, fat, and calories.

Reporting to the Technical Manager, you will be a commercially-minded scientist specializing for us in dairy and non-dairy yogurt, protein beverages, and creamers. The primary focus of this position is to apply knowledge to flavor selection, evaluation and application development. Be a technical expert and adviser to marketing, sales, flavor creation, and customers.



  • Showcase your Technical Expertise: Lead evaluations of flavors in applications for briefs, research projects, and portfolio evaluations. Select flavors for projects according to specified requirements (i.e. customer, regulatory, legislation, costs) and suggest improvements for the most common applications. Identify appropriate flavor delivery systems and technologies for customer projects in specific applications.


  • Partner and Influence: Gain trust and respect of assigned customers. Learn in the application how the flavor performs, and understand the behavior of flavors. Maintain the flavor performance data for the flavor portfolio through evaluation in finished product. Coach, train and motivate technicians and technologists.


  • Project and Lab Management: Maintain a safe, clean and organized lab environment following EH&S policies and hold others accountable for following these guidelines. Manage projects with an interest to lead large development projects.


  • Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Chemistry, or related.
  • 6+ years of experience in a food applications lab, production, or CPG product development
  • History of participating on customer projects including customer visits, leading projects where applicable.
  • Ability to translate market trends into creative products for selected customers
  • Understanding of food applications, ingredients, and processes with experience in customer food manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of flavor reactions/interactions in common food products and the ability to recommend flavor modifications based on performance
