Basic Function (Purpose of Position):

To make emulsions, washed extracts, and flavor compounds according to formulas provided. 

 

Essential Responsibilities and Specific Duties:

Processes compounds, emulsions, and washed extracts by mixing, homogenizing, filtering, heating, chilling, and sampling. Operates equipment and systems according to Standard Operating Procedures. Performs in-process quality testing to ensure customer specifications are met. Manufactures products in a safe and timely manner. Compounds finished products as specified on the batch record.

Maintains neat, orderly and clean shop floor and workplace at all times. Breaks-down and cleans equipment as needed (i.e. homogenizers, filter presses, etc.). Works in compliance with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations and adheres to internal policies, including (but not limited to) the handling of hazardous wastes.

Maintains accurate records of all work performed, and logs information as required.  Takes inventory of materials, and reports or makes corrections as needed.  Performs other duties when required, such as dispensing and material handling.

Minimum Education/Experience/Skills/Job Knowledge/:

High School Diploma or equivalent required, with proficiency in basic mathematical skills (Metric vs. English system).  Minimum 2 years in flavors-related manufacturing environment is required.  Forklift license is preferred.  Must be capable of performing routine work assignments, multi-tasking and following instructions with moderate supervision.  Must be hard-working, self-motivated, committed to quality, and recognize the impact of day-to-day activities on the shop floor on customer satisfaction.  Must produce volume within established standards and schedules.  Open-mindedness, a positive attitude, clear communication skills (verbal and written), promptness, consistent attendance and willingness to work overtime are required

Working Conditions:

Exposure to hot and cold environments, weather, vapors, dust and gases are frequent.  May be required to wear respirator/PAPR for chemical exposure.  Must follow safety guidelines and procedures and perform all duties involving hazardous wastes in accordance with training received. 

Effect of Errors:

Failure to follow safety or hazardous waste training procedures may lead to injury to self or others.  Failure to produce an acceptable volume of product may result in shipping delays to customers.

Physical Demands/Dexterity:

Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and push/pull up to 50 lbs.  Frequent standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, grasping, and crouching is required.  Use of foot pedals may be required, and typing on a computer is necessary.

Equipment Used:

May be required to wear respirator. Use forklift as directed.

Responsibility for Work of Others:

No direct supervisory responsibilities, however, must report observation of unsafe acts to supervisor or safety manager.
