Senior Research Technician / Senior Associate Scie

As a Senior Research Technician / Senior Associate Scientist in the Process Research group of Givaudan’s Fragrance Division, you will investigate new processes for fragrance ingredients using your skills in biocatalysis/biotechnology.


You will work as part of the Process Research team in the laboratory in Kemptthal/Zürich, whose role is to ensure that fragrance ingredients benefit from the best and most sustainable production processes conceivable. The major focus within the Process Research team will cover the study of various aspects and parameters required for the development of efficient enzymatic processes for the production of fragrance ingredients.

  • Study biocatalytic reactions aimed at producing fragrance ingredients with regard to substrate specificity, product selectivity and reaction parameters as well as their optimization towards production
  • Produce biocatalysts (enzymes, whole cells)
  • Interact with an interdisciplinary environment: organic chemistry and analytic laboratories
  • Record effectively all data generated from experimental work
  • Communicate effectively your results and offer conclusions/ways forward to your line management enabling the successful progress of projects
  • Ensure smooth running of the laboratory by sourcing lab supplies needed to carry out routine and complex experiments; design and perform lab work in a safe manner, operating, maintaining and organizing standard lab equipment
  • Continuously develop your practical skills towards Process Research through practical experience and structured learning

Your professional profile includes:


  • Education as a biology/biotechnology/biocatalysis technician or equivalent education with the required experience in the field: fermentation and biocatalysis
  • Several years of experience on the job
  • Deep knowledge of lab equipment and it’s safe use to perform daily experimental work
  • Ability to document effectively data generated from experimental results and provide conclusions
  • Strong knowledge of Environment & Health Services guidelines as they pertain to lab maintenance and operation
  • Flexibility, reliability, sense of urgency and quality awareness
  • Good communication skills
  • A good knowledge of English and the ability to record effectively experimental details/conclusions in English
  • Ability to coach junior staff in practical aspects of Biocatalysis/Biotechnology
