Location: New York, NY

Reports to: Director Fragrance Cosmetic Chemistry

As the Manager of Aircare Applications you play an important role within the Fine Fragrance Creative Studio based in New York City.  Reporting directly to the Director Fragrance Cosmetic Chemistry you will oversee the operations of candle and plug-in, fragrance diffuser and other ambiance activities in the Aircare applications laboratory, while assuring timely delivery of samples and supervising a staff of 1-2 technologists.   You will be responsible for resolving technical issues when required for applications by working with perfumers, production and other team members. You will train the team on the various applications and procedures and act as a back-up to other managers in the application group.

Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, thrive in a fast paced environment and possess an interest in working in a creative industry.

 

  • Supporting our business: Prepare and monitor the fragrance samples by applying internally developed fragrances to a base; assure team is following procedures and processes, and timely turnaround of samples. Assure internal and external bases and supplies are maintained. Apply your expertise in all application requirements for all Aircare products as well as other FF applications. Set up meetings with sales and marketing and also outside vendors and team to develop new ideas for product presentations. Analyze and problem-solve troubleshooting for new and existing fragrances. Assist and support the commercialization of product from concept to manufacturing (including process optimization)
  • Communication: Work with perfumers and staff to assure proper fragrance technologies into submissions, advise perfumers what solubilizers and CARB and TSCA restrictions to apply to each base type.  Work with Fragrance Evaluators to ensure samples are prepared for evaluation.  Maintain clear lines of communication with Evaluators, Perfumers and Sales on status of projects and sample requests. Manage relationship with fillers. Be proactive in troubleshooting. Reach out to team members both internally and externally to mitigate potential issues.
  • Administrative Support: Maintain accurate and up to date manual and electronic lab records.    Become Expert on CARB, and TSCA regulation requirements for products and fragrance applications.

 

Qualifications & Job Requirements  

  • Minimum of 5 years lab experience; especially in raw materials and their technical impact on aircare products (such as candle burn performance)
  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry/Chem  Eng or relevant science degreee.
  • Solubility and technical performance testing and problem solving abilities a must.
  • Priority setting skills a must.
  • Knowledge in the application of fragrances to product applications; especially candles
  • Some experience with Quality Assurance or trouble shooting production scale up processes.
  • Assure Laboratory safety and compliance.
  • Assure neat environment is kept in laboratory
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – especially the ability to work effectively with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Attention to detail and accurate record keeping
  • Strong mathematical and problem solving skills
