Purpose
Develop segment strategy and act as a technical leader for all functional groups, in order to drive technical solutions excellence within the organisation, according to business objectives and within budget.
Core Responsibilities
Strategy & Leadership
- Provide direction from the local applications standpoint for the development of S&T strategies
- Manage the lab/pilot plant equipment needs within the capital budget to improve the ability to execute technical projects within the segment
- Coordinate with all functional areas the overall needs of the department and manage the approach and tools needed to improve the technical execution of the segment
- Provide updates to management for all internal and external technical activities including the performance achieved against all objectives
- Provide technical leadership for al functional groups to select, elevate, and promote technology which improves the ability to provide better technical solutions with the segment
Knowledge Sharing & Expertise
- Act as main technical contact at selected key accounts to develop relationships at the management level to better understand the technical execution needs and design the brief execution process to deliver against these needs as well as participating in customer visits and meetings at the customer when required
People Management
- Manage the performance of all members of the segment technical team to execute the technical objectives to meet or exceed the goals
- Proactively take responsibility to build a diverse and inclusive environment and leverages differences in styles, thinking and approaches
Academic Background
- Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Chemistry, or related area or
- M.S. in Food Science, Chemistry, or related area or
- Ph.D. in Food Science, Chemistry, or related area
Professional Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree: minimum 10+ years of experience in a food applications lab, flavourist lab, production or related area preferred
- M.S.: minimum 7+ years of experience in a food applications lab, flavourist lab, production, or related area preferred
- Ph.D.: minimum 4+ years of experience in a food applications lab, flavourist lab, production, or related area preferred
Technical Skills
- Complete understanding of project management skills with the ability to provide direction to all levels of applications and flavour creation to best execute all project objectives
- Complete ability to effectively interface with customers and discuss the technical needs of multiple applications areas and be able to help customers work to solve technical issues in these applications
- Ability to effectively manage all levels of applications and flavour creation personnel to provide the best guidance for their technical development
- Ability to prepare and effectively present a wide variety of technical presentations which can include elements of all related functions such as applications, flavour creation, sensory , consumer understanding, analytical science, marketing, etc.
- Ability to communicate with all functional groups to effectively align resources and successfully execute technical objectives
